Gunite Pools Houston TX
Gunite is concrete shot from a hose at high velocity over a steel cage, and it is the only pool shell we build. It takes any shape your designer can draw, it handles Houston clay when engineered properly, and a good gunite shell outlives the mortgage on the house. Fiberglass shells come in fixed factory shapes and float out of the ground when the water table rises. Vinyl liners tear and need replacing every decade. Gunite just sits there being concrete.
The material is only half the story. Gunite fails when it is shot too thin, over rusty or undersized steel, or cured too fast in the Texas heat. Our crews have shot thousands of yards of it, we core-test thickness, and we keep shells wet through the cure so the concrete reaches full strength. That is the boring, invisible work that decides whether your pool is intact in 2050.
A gunite shell also gives you total freedom in finishes: classic white plaster, colored quartz, or pebble finishes that shimmer like a lagoon floor. Raised spa walls, vanishing edges, tanning ledges, and swim-up bars are all just steel and gunite, shaped to order.

Common Questions
Gunite vs fiberglass in Houston, which is better?
For this soil, gunite. Fiberglass shells are faster to install but come in fixed shapes, and in neighborhoods with high water tables they can literally float up when drained. A properly engineered gunite shell is custom-shaped and stays put.
How long does a gunite pool last?
The shell itself, 50 years or more. Plaster finishes last 10 to 20 years depending on water chemistry, then you resurface, which is normal maintenance rather than failure.
Is gunite more expensive?
Upfront, yes, usually 15 to 25 percent over fiberglass. Over 30 years of ownership it is typically cheaper because you are not replacing liners or living with a shape you settled for.
